Concerned about gaining weight this holiday season? Don't be! We've got several tips to help minimize that fear. Also, we'd love to share some healthy gift ideas with you.
Now let's get into those tips for avoiding holiday weight gain, shall we?
1. Stay active. Even if that means running around after your niece and nephews, grand kids, or the family dog. Or taking a long walk with a family member, or by yourself if you need some quiet time. If you need ideas for fun at-home exercises or a recording of our sessions,
hit reply!
2. Stay hydrated - Everything functions better when you are hydrated! Water will help reduce hunger and cravings.
3. Eat mindfully. Eat slower and thoroughly chew your food. This will dramatically improve your digestion, and it will take you much longer to finish your meal. Giving your body adequate time to signal it’s full.
4. Take three deep breaths before eating. This will help you feel calm and relaxed before eating. And, it’s key for digestive health and overall health. The holidays can be crazy, busy, stressful, and fun all wrapped into one. So, it’s almost second nature to stress eat. Slow
down, so you don’t overdo it in the calorie or sweets department. Or even worse, give yourself a stomach ache or painful heartburn.
5. Use smaller plates. We tend to fill up our entire plate with food. Especially in a buffet, serve-it-yourself type of setup. Using smaller plates instead can easily prevent overeating.
6. Limit alcohol. Whether we’re feeling stressed or want to have fun, alcohol quickly inserts itself into the equation. Drinking too much easily becomes empty calories and tends to increase cravings for junk food. Before the party gets started decide on 1 or 2 drinks maximum, and
try your best to stick to that. Sip slowly if that helps!
7. Prioritize sleep. Without a solid night’s rest (this applies to all situations, not just the holidays), you may feel cranky, lethargic, and have no energy to work out. This is where sweet and caffeine cravings come in to perk you up. But as you know, sugar does nothing good
for your waistline.
