Featured Online/Q and A

Published: Fri, 07/28/17

Hi

I am going to share a few sites I contributed to over the last month and  introduce our New Q and A! Continue to send those questions over because I love them!

Below is an article I contributed to for bodybuilding.com with recipes for high protein snacks

https://www.bodybuilding.com/content/6-high-protein-snacks-for-your-summer-road-trip.html

I am excited to be a featured writer for STACK! We have a few more articles in the works that should be released soon! The article is geared towards athletes but I work with quite a few people who want better glutes...AKA the butt! It goes without saying you better be knocking out some deep squats and deadlifts also! If you have kids that can benefit from our youth programs then hit reply and we can send more info.

Q and A- Send those questions over! A good one below!

Q- Is It required that I have a protein shake right after I workout?

A- The supplement industry has created a ton of myths when it comes to nutrition. A lot of studies are coming out now that are debunking these myths. You will probably never see these studies because there is so much money behind this industry.

The studies basically show it can  be beneficial for serious athletes who don't have a lot of time to recover before their next session (less than 24 hours). Even in these studies, the carbs are more important for them to replenish glycogen and be ready to perform.

The problem with our industry is we take something that can benefit 1% of the population and we run with it. People in our industry call this bro-science. Bro-science is when we find someone who looks good and we copy them no matter what they say. Some of these things actually work for them, and others, but we blow it out of proportion. We end up spending 95% of our time focusing on something that contributes to .001% of your results.

It takes longer for protein to break down than carbs. If you eat a meal heavy in protein you will not be hungry 2 to 3 hours later. It is still in your system doing its job helping your muscles recover. Instead of focusing on getting in a protein shake right after you finish your workout, just focus on having a base of protein in each meal. Do this and you will be fine! It still goes back to preference and what you can maintain. Maybe you have a crazy schedule and this can benefit you? But there is no magic behind a shake or any supplement for that matter.

The supplement industry says you have to eat 6 times per day because they know there is no way you are getting 6 regular food meals in per day. It means you will resort to a shake........they get paid!

The supplement industry says you have to get in protein right after your training session. They know you are not going directly to you car and eating a chicken breast. So you buy a shake........they get paid!

A supplement only helps if it's filling in  the gaps with something you are missing in your diet. I have days where I take a protein shake, and others that I do not. It is not magic.

Alrighty then!  Now that I have set myself up to get 2 million questions about supplements let me close by saying.......

  1. Just have a base of protein at each meal and you will be fine
  2. If you are a serious athlete reading this then the rules might change
  3. Seriously, we are talking about supplements which contribute to 1% of your results(I said this in my Allen Iverson talking about practice voice. Some of you will get that reference. If you do, then it makes you cooler than 98% of the population  )
  4. If you are not working  out consistently then hit reply. If you have other issues with nutrition then hit reply. If you are not getting the results you desire then hit reply. If you have any questions then hit reply.

so any questions?.....anyone? anyone? anyone?

We have some pretty cool things in the works! The blog site is being worked on that will have all of my features going back to 2002-ish, and of course all the new stuff. I promise it will not be boring. The same way RPT is not another me-too fitness place, the blog is going to break down the science in a way that is not boring to read. We also have some cool new services and specials for first time members!

Enjoy your weekend!!
