Training Mistakes (Part One)

Hi

COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS --- COMPARE YOURSELF TO YOURSELF, NOW! Don't compare yourself to others. We are all different in regards to experience, previous injuries, body type, etc. Embrace this and make sure the program  has plenty of modifications based on your needs. You are also not the person you were a decade ago, and this is fine. This is why our individualized programming in the group setting is a difference maker.

THEY OBSESS OVER THE NAME OF THE PROGRAM-- A program called quality training is never going to sell books. People obsess over names vs. solid training principles. I did HIIT and now I am going to burn a million calories after the session!!...ugh, no! ...Tabata! MetCon! I am not saying these things don't work, just stop obsessing over the name of the program.

VIEWING SORENESS AS AN INDICATOR OF SOMETHING-- There are 95 million factors when it comes to if you are sore or not. If you are starting up a new program then yes you will be sore the first week. This is not good or bad, it is what it is. When I hear people say "I am not sore anymore, so it's not working anymore" I cringe. I know people who are lifting over 600lbs who don't get sore. Some of them  actually avoid it on purpose so they can get more quality sessions in vs. the person chasing a crippling workout. 3 Quality sessions this week, is better than one crippling workout and not being able to walk in the door the next 2 days . You should feel like you worked out. You should not feel like you were ran over by a truck.

THEY DON'T ADDRESS WEAKNESSES- If a person is good at something, you better believe they will end up spending more time on it. If a person is bad at something, they are going to ignore it completely. A weakness is not just a weak muscle, it can be something like mobility or flexibility. The majority of the time when someone comes in for an assessment I might see something like mobility around the hip (or any other joint) holding them back from getting the most out of an exercise. I of course attack mobility first vs loading a movement they cant do.

THEY DONT FIND THE INTENSITY SWEET SPOT- Sitting, yes SITTING, on an exercise machine is not doing much. A program is not good if it has you jumping on boxes 3000 times after doing Olympic lifts, after squatting for an hour, after doing 90 half pull-ups that might (will) injure you. You will only see the benefit from training when you can recover from that training. Work hard, but work smart also.

THEY THINK THEY ARE NOT GETTING CARDIO IN UNLESS THEY ARE ON SOME BORING TREADMILL -- Cardio is getting your heart rate up and keeping it elevated for a period of time. In our sessions we are able to do this while you also get the benefit of strength training. You save time and get a better workout. Most people at commercial gyms are spending over an hour doing stuff that does not work and resting/talking in between sets. The old school I have to separate my cardio and lifting is what causes so many people to not get started. They think they need an hour to get in a great workout and this is not true.

THEY START OFF WAY TOO FAST WITH THEIR PROGRAM AND DON'T BUILD A FOUNDATION-When in doubt go slower and work on technique.

on the flip side...SOME DON'T GET STARTED...OR THEY START AND STOP LIKE 15 TIMES A YEAR.

THEY GO AT IT ALONE-  We all need help. If you are not getting results then use us. If you are not a member STILL ASK ME QUESTIONS. There is a big difference between throwing your money down the drain, and making an investment in yourself. Your health is kind of a big deal.  You have to make that mind shift. Can you afford not to? Commercial gyms and the next best workout ONLY WORK FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ALREADY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!  You need coaching 24 hours a day, not just another fad diet or program.

MAKE THE DECISION FIRST. WE WILL HELP YOU FIGURE IT OUT

Thanks,

Detric
