Here is part two from last week! A few more exercise myths that never seem to go away!
Myth 5: Cardio is the only way to lose weight.
The Truth: While cardio is excellent for burning calories and improving heart health, it's not the sole player in the weight loss game. Strength training is equally, if not more,
important. Muscle tissue is more metabolically active than fat, meaning it burns more calories even when you're resting. A balanced routine that includes both cardio and strength training is the most effective approach for sustainable weight loss and overall health.
Myth 6: Stretching before a workout prevents injuries.
The Truth: Traditional "static stretching" (holding a stretch for a period
of time) on cold muscles can actually be counterproductive and may even decrease muscle performance. A dynamic warm-up, which involves active movements that mimic your workout, is a more effective way to prepare your body. Helps your body warm up and improve mobility and flexibility. Save the static stretching for after your workout to improve flexibility and aid in recovery. You can also do static flexibility throughout the day to get benefits.
Myth 7: If you
stop working out, muscle turns to fat.
The Truth: Muscle and fat are two different types of tissue and one cannot transform into the other. When you stop exercising and maintain the same diet, you may lose muscle mass and gain body fat. This happens because your metabolism slows down without the muscle, and the extra calories you're consuming are stored as fat. The change in body composition is what creates the illusion of muscle "turning
into" fat.
Myth 8: You need to spend hours at the gym to see results.
The Truth: Consistency and quality of your workout are far more important than quantity. Short, high-intensity workouts can be just as, or even more, effective than long, low-intensity sessions. It's about making the most of your time. Even 20-30 minutes of focused, high-effort exercise several times a week can lead to significant health benefits.
By letting go of these common myths, you can approach your fitness journey with a smarter, more effective mindset. Focus on a balanced routine, listen to your body, and remember that real progress is built on consistency and knowledge, not just effort.
