Q. Do you have any exercises that you hate? Exercise you would never place in a program?
A. - The best exercise in the world can also be the worst exercise in
the world! It depends on the person, their goals, injuries, and other factors.
Know why you are doing the exercise! - There has to be a reason for WHY you are doing that exercise. It has to fit into the big picture, the plan.
“It looks cool on Instagram” is not a good reason for doing an exercise. A famous person doing an exercise does not make it
a great exercise.
Personal Training vs. Group?
Some exercises are great in our personal or semi private setting, but horrible in a large group setting.
Large group classes doing things like barbell lifts, box jumps, or advanced plyometric work is usually a recipe for disaster.
Especially for general population or youth athletes who have not built a foundation.
Do I have people do barbell lifts, box jumps, and plyo work? Yes! A small percentage of our members who are READY for it! We have exercises that we do in our 1 on 1 and semi private (2 to 5 people) sessions that we do not do in our group training (around 6 to 12 people).

exercises?
Most exercises have a place in someone’s program. There are a few that do not:)
I don’t understand when people use equipment to increase the range of motion of an exercise, but can’t do the normal range of motion for that exercise. Think standing on a step to do a deadlift, and then not even going to normal range of motion on that deadlift?!
I don’t understand some of these combo moves. These are exercises that combine two exercises into the same exercise. Some exercises go together well, like a squat to press. But doing exercises like squat to bicep curls? Why? The weight you are using for these two should be very different. You end up not building real strength in either exercise.
Dumb Equipment
?
Equipment can be great for one person, horrible for the next. You must know WHY you are using it.
Take a bosu ball for example. Is it really improving your balance? Or does it just look like it’s improving your balance? Doing an exercise on a bosu ball is not effective for strength training. A great article and studies about Bosu Ball/unstable

A few more things to keep in mind…..
If it causes joint pain for you, then it’s a dumb exercise.
An exercise
that is horrible for you now, might end up being a great exercise for you as you make progress.
Remember to keep the goal the goal. Have a plan to help you reach that goal. We are here to help!
