Q. What do you consider the best equipment for a home gym?
A. - The best overall piece of equipment is your body weight! Had
to get that out of the way before I talk about equipment! Below are a few of my favorites…
Resistance Bands - Versatile and don’t cost a lot. You can do so many exercises with a few bands!
Dumbbells/Adjustable Dumbbells - They don’t cost a lot, will last forever, and a million exercises you can do with them. They are safer than barbells.
Adjustable Bench - Not required to get in a great workout, but a great addition and does not take up space
Based on your space, any form of cardio equipment can be useful. But there are a million ways we can get in cardio without equipment. The best cardio equipment is the one you will actually use. For cardio, not to hang your clothes on :)
Trx/suspension training - These straps can be useful. Lots of joint friendly exercises that can be done with them and they do not take up space!
What about barbells? - Even though they can be useful, most people do not need them. If you are doing any barbell work, then get some guidance first. The injury risk is much higher. At our studio we have landmine attachments which can make training with a barbell
much safer!

Q. What do you consider the biggest mistake with youth training?
A. Treating your kid like a pro athlete without taking any time to build a foundation. Here is an article I wrote for Elitefts to check out => Your Kid is Not a Pro Athlete
I hate seeing kids get destroyed by stupid training programs. But the parents do not know what they do
not know. They just see that a program is popular or the price is good. Or some top level athlete endorses it.
Do your research. If the goal is to improve athletic qualities then throwing your kid in some jam packed boot camp with 50 people in a room is not going to do it. Don’t get fooled by top level athletes being able to survive training. Surviving a training session vs getting better are two different things.
