☑️Your relationship with food?
So why do you bring this up right before Thanksgiving?! No, I am not going to tell you to restrict your eating to protein and veggies. Tomorrow, or any day, you should be able to enjoy your food. That does not mean stuff yourself to the point where you can’t walk. There is a balance.
I find that most people need to focus on their relationship with food and solid habits vs. going on diets to lose weight. A bad relationship with food,
hopping around from diet to diet, will end up mentally and physically destroying you. Below are signs you have an unhealthy relationship with food. I took this from a great article on Cooking Light
Signs you may have an unhealthy relationship with food:
- You feel shame or guilt when you eat certain foods or eat more than you feel you should.
- Certain foods are “off-limits.”
- You tend to overeat without realizing
it.
- You find yourself eating when you’re not hungry.
- You find yourself eating in response to emotions like disappointment, anger, stress, nervousness, or excitement.
- Calories or macros determine your food choices or how “good” you diet is each day.
- You’ve tried numerous diets without success.
- Food choices determine the quality or
success of your day.
- Daily food choices are considered a reflection of who you are.
- You avoid eating around others.
- You have anxiety or stress before events where food will be served.
If anything on the above list describes you then going on another diet will not help. Even though fat loss might improve your health, the way you go about it might destroy you in the long run. Physically and mentally. It’s like the harder they try, the worse it gets. They never built a foundation.
People get angry at me when I don’t just give them a meal plan and say follow it. It would be like me giving you a workout without
asking any questions about previous exercise history, injury or goals. I have been doing this long enough to know that it does not work long term.
I hate it when coaches hand out generic plans. Their clients get short term results and then fall off. Their clients say the plan worked and blame themselves for not being able to follow it. No, the plan was horrible because you could not follow it long term! A great coach takes the time to understand you and develop a plan around your specific needs. This
takes longer but the results last a lifetime.
